Engagement / Nischayathartham

After a conversation with Priya and Sanjiv, who expressed a desire to spend more time getting to know each other, their families consulted their respective vadhyars Raghavan Vadhyar and Kumar Vadhyar, to determine an auspicious date. The priests unanimously selected Sunday, June 9, 2024, as an ideal date for the nischayathartham (engagement).

In the interim, the families exchanged greetings on occasions such as birthdays, wedding anniversaries, New Year, and Pongal.

Both families decided to hold the event at Alamu Hall in Chembur. Upon visiting the venue, they found the charming hall perfectly suited their needs. It also offered in-house catering, specializing in authentic cuisine.

The families diligently began making the necessary arrangements. They met with the hall owner, finalized the catering menu, planned the decorations, compiled the guest list, selected attire for everyone, arranged for photography and makeup, arranged for a mini mehndi before the function and consulted with their respective vadhyars to ensure all religious requirements were met. They meticulously created detailed lists for each task to ensure nothing was overlooked.

On Sunday, June 9, 2024, morning, the engagement took place in a grand manner, and Sow Priya and Chi Sanjiv got engaged to each other. The guests enjoyed a tasty sumptuous lunch post the nischayathartham. The date of wedding was formally announced as 3rd Feb 2025, Monday, and the venue for the wedding was fixed as BAPS Swaminarayan Kalakendra at Navi Mumbai, Vashi.

For the families, parents, and well-wishers, this nischayathartham event provided a glimpse into the scale of the upcoming wedding preparations. In terms of venue size, guest count, duration, processes, and overall budget, the engagement was merely a small-scale rehearsal, perhaps around 5 to 7% of the magnitude of the wedding itself.
